Along with uncontrollable cravings and piercing cramps, many women also experience extreme fatigue while menstruating.

Exhaustion While Menstruating

Some of us spend one week a month feeling totally exhausted on top of other standard PMS symptoms. In fact, some women find themselves sleeping more hours to compensate for the tiredness while menstruating, but regardless, it can be hard to feel well rested.

There is essentially no “answer” for the tiredness that keeps so many women in bed during their time of the month.

According to You Beauty, the answer isn’t necessarily scientific. Although your body is working a little bit harder during your period, it likely doesn’t account for the unusual fatigue you might feel. Instead, the exhaustion might be a result of other side effects of your period.

For instance, cramps and back pain often prevent us from getting a full night’s rest during our cycle. If you find yourself waking up in pain or frequently going to the bathroom at night, you’d feel tired the next morning. Sometimes while we are on our periods, our normal sleep schedule is interrupted which might result in sleepiness.

Some women also don’t stick to their typical exercise routine while on their periods because they are in pain, they have heavy bleeding, or so forth. While it isn’t always appealing to attend a yoga class or take a run while bleeding, exercising will release endorphins to make your body feel better and it will tire out your body, helping you to fall asleep at night.

Another cause of fatigue during menstruation might be a result of you giving into your cravings. If you typically eat on the healthier side, but indulge in comfort foods while on your period, you might be experiencing fatigue as a result of your diet.

To battle period exhaustion, do your best to eat right, exercise, and get as much sleep as possible at night.
